The film sheds light on the complex personality of a man who was, at once, widely recognized yet rarely truly seen.

Two death sentences by the Nazis, his deep bond with his native Crete, his belief in national reconciliation, his enduring love for his wife Marika, and his refuge in poetry are among the milestones depicted in a documentary that captures the long and multifaceted journey of Konstantinos Mitsotakis.

Mountain Symphonies brings to the screen moments from the life of this emblematic statesman through rare archival footage and previously unpublished recollections of his family, colleagues, and even political opponents.

At the heart of director Vangelis Efthymiou’s vision lies Mitsotakis’ deep respect and love for nature, which he regarded as a source of moral and spiritual balance. The film highlights his early understanding of the importance of environmental protection at a time when ecological awareness was still virtually unknown in Greece.

The documentary also presents, for the first time, an excerpt from Mitsotakis’ final interview, recorded twenty days before his death.
Proceeds from the film were dedicated to the protection and regeneration of the ampelitsia, an endemic tree of the White Mountains of Crete.
